Just look at the threads around this place a few weeks back. Collectively as a group, we still didn't know what might, or might not be headed our way this year as far as the CB1100 was concerned.

Also, it's one thing to be dissatisfied with a product, but to want a different product even more doesn't necessarily mean that a person isn't happy with what they bought. We all have different preferences. For many, the 2013 model was the best thing going back when it was released. Now for some, the 2014 Deluxe model will supplant the 2013 offering as the bike that comes the closest to their ideal. That doesn't strike me as being all that difficult to understand. I hope that everyone out there who is pining for a 2014 model is able to find a way to make it happen. Especially if that means selling or trading in a 2013 model. The more CB1100s out there being ridden, the better.

Guth said it best above ....

I want to be clear, I really love my 2013, great motorcycle, not a thing wrong with it. I am just more attracted to the looks and features of the 2014 Deluxe that's all. I was able to make the trade without having to dip into my savings very much ( important when you are retired like me). Many of the physical attractions on the 2014 are changes many of you have made to your 2013s at considerable expense..seats, side covers, tanks, exhausts etc. the only changes I made to my 2013 were the little rubber end covers ( already on order for the 2014), a removable windshield which will fit the new one, soft luggage ( fits the new one) valve stem caps $2 and they are black so they will stay with the trade, grips will get moved to the new one, helmet lock will get moved to the new one, and battery tender pig tail which will get moved to the new one. So I will be out about $6 worth of changes I can't switch over.

Ferret, I know you said you were pleased with the deal... and that you traded in two bikes for the new one. But do you think you we're given a good price for your '13
and/or a good price, relative to sticker, on the '14? In other words, without the 2nd trade, would the spread have been 'about' what's been bantered about elsewhere on the forum? Also... How many miles were on your trade? And did you have to turn in your '13 now, or will you do that when you take delivery on the new one? I'm going to trade in mine, but was planning on waiting until the new ones arrived. However, 'maybe' it would make sense to do it now...before they arrive. Thoughts?

Sorry gheil, missed this question. I felt I was treated fairly and we came out pretty close on what I was expecting to get and pay difference for all 3 units. I'd give you exact numbers but they would do you no good as numbers only mean something to the two parties involved. I know what I paid for my CB and what I got on trade. I know what I paid for my Majesty and what I got on trade and they were all numbers I could live with. I have bought 6 new motorcycles from this dealer in the last 7 years and I am personal friends with the owner and have known him for 40 years so it's possible I get treated a little better than a stranger walking in off the street, but I think a savvy shopper who wont let a dealer wholesale his trade and then retail the new unit on him could do just as well.

With this long relationship and purchases track I say you do get treated differently, otherwise you would not be a returning customer. You are right when you say numbers are just numbers and in this case would do us no good. I can't tell my dealer "ferret got a better deal" and expect them to match it. Not sure that conversation will end up in my favor. I just remember you saying on another thread that you would not sell your CB for $6k, so I was curious to find out if you got a good deal and obviously you did.

In my case; and to clarify what I said before on another thread; I was quoted $6-$6.5 by a Victory dealer and not a Honda dealer. I visited my local Honda shop and they had a used Victoy Judge on their floor, but they don't give test rides as they have been sued before. I asked for a trade in value for my CB and they quoted me $5.1-$5.7 by the sales floor manager. One of the sales guy told me he used to work at Stpetepowersports and they offer test rides because it brings in a lot of sales and they have not been sued. So off I went and sure enough they prepared a brand new bike for me to test. I was very pleased with the torque and performance of the bike, especially on the highway. The Manager of the store (Dan) told me he can give me between $6-$6.5 because a lot of his customers buy Bonneville and it is a similar bike. At the end I couldn't part with the CB, but I am willing to for a new and improved CB.

Anyhow, thanks for answering gheil's question and pardon me for butting in on your conversation. This is important to me as I weigh in my options on how to approach it, just as many others here are.
