Yes, left hand side in above/in front of the saddlebag. All STs are basically the same from 2003 to 2014. I have had the bike 6 years and it has always been a beast to get up. If I am out alone I just use the side stand. Jeezalou I can't imagine having a rear flat and having to get that beast on the centerstand.

Just goes to show when one guy says the CB1100 is easy as pie, and the ST1300 is the hardest bike ever (I've been reading The Ferret's comments on the ST1300's centerstand for some time now), and another says just the opposite...that's your subjectivity coming into it.
Well, both those bikes are serious pigs to get on the mainstand compared to some.
The deal with using a Pitbull or similar stand is that, while it is more troublesome in some respects (and easier to do with some help, but this is by no means necessary), we are pulling UP on the bike to pop it on to the centerstand, which can tweak back muscles and rupture disks. OTOH, to use a rear swingarm stand, one pushes DOWN on the stand, which causes virtually no strain to the back muscles at all. And the bike can be moved around whilst on the rear stand.
Like the centerstand, using a rear stand take some practice.
I know Red Mist.... makes no sense does it?
BTW it's not so much a pulling up when putting the bike on the centerstand either, it's pushing the centerstand down. Very little pulling involved or at least there should be very little pulling involved. It's mostly body weight pushing the stand down, and the hands guiding it into position.
I need/want my centerstands out on the road for emergencies, and prefer them at home for maintenance.
