Fuel Injection Problem with a 2014 California model

I'm no scientific expert, but I thought all new bikes were california models?

To my knowledge all bike manufacturers produce 49 state models, and California only models. We have the most-stringent emissions laws in the country, but I read somewhere that NY had adopted similar requirements. As an example, my 1998 VFR800 (Ca model) has different cams and a different ECU than the 49 state version. The shop manual gives different cam profiles for 49 state and Ca. spec bikes, with the 49 state bikes having a greater lift.

Could that be bad fuel? Empty tank and try clean and higher octane fuel...(high volume gas stations).
I have a history of disassembling carbs in the past and findind out it just needed new gas.

Sorry to hear. My 2014 DLX runs fine. It does not exhibit any sputter between 2K and 3K.

Hi JetA. The sputter is so very quiet you have to be really listening for it. Does your bike feel different, or to produce significantly less horsepower in this range? It may be my bike only, especially if nobody with Ca. models has experienced this problem on their 2013 models.
