New key won't work in ignition

Hey Bob. The key is very long and only goes in the tank & helmet lock which is not deep and it leaves the long key sticking out making it easy to bend just by turning to unlock tank & helmet. I have read where people are taking a spare key cutting it down in length and then putting the head of key back on it. It want work in ignition any more but you want have to worry about a bent key!! You will know one day if key is just barley bent due to ignition hard to turn and hard to pull key out of ignition
