Mine are usually lightly touching the inner "flange" of the grip (where it meets the controls), which is part of the grip on most all of my bikes.
I'm also running the Grip Puppies - I'm 57, and I find that the smallish diameter grips on a lot of new bikes, and most sportbikes really get my hand to aching in no time. The larger diameter of the Puppies, the slightly spongy feel, and the much less slippery surface allow me to grip less firmly, and ride for much longer without cramps or aches.
