I wonder, but have a pretty good idea, if automobile extended warranties are exactly the same. Everything I've ever read online indicates they are (re: MSRP and profit percent).
Every cent the dealer makes on the extended warranty is gravy since it doesn't cost them one thin dime to service it. So, whether one pays $1,100 over the dealer's cost or $1, it's all profit to them. As such, the customer should endeavor to cut that to the bone. IMO, $20-50 over is plenty for a two-second transaction.
