Thanks for sharing what is a painful scenario for many of us. Glad it turned out alright and the bonus is that you have learned something. For this reason, I always put my bike in first before turning the ignition to off and kick the stand. Yes it may seem easier to use the kill switch or let the kickstand cut the engine but I have then forgotten that the ignition is still in the on position.
