That was a bad day. We had been having a great day of riding. We had met up with 4paws and he was leading this part of the ride. So I was able to just relax a bit. I always keep an eye on the guys behind me when in group rides. We had just rounded a bend in the road and started on a straight part when I noticed someone was missing. I got that sinking feeling. Stopped and turned around. I couldn't believe what happened. Rick had gone down on a straightaway. It wasn't until we spoke with his girlfriend and found out that he had been hit by a deer. A nurse had said that he had been hit by a deer. She said that he kept talking/asking about how the deer was. I've chatted with Ricky hear and there, and I am glad he is getting better. Hope to see him at the rally, and look forward to seeing everyone else.

For those not familiar, forum member Rick was taken out by a deer at this years rally in Va, and got pretty busted up. Particularly his right ankle which required extensive plating, pinning and surgeries, and his hands were messed up pretty badly as well. Unconscious, he had to be airflighted to a hospital in Roanoak and then car transported after being stabilized to Indianapolis for surgery. His beautiful CB was totalled in the accident, and was delivered to Indy by another forum member.
It's been a tough road of recovery for Rick, being homebound all summer, and he finally got back to work for the first time the Monday of Thanksgiving week. The ankle is still very painful, but he is finally walking pretty well, without a cane most of the time.
The last time I visited him in Indy he was still on crutches and his ankle was still in very bad shape. he was unable to put any weight on it at all, so you can imagine the delight in seeing Rick walk from his car across the parking lot to the restaurant. We spent about 2 hours eating and talking, smiling and laughing. RIck again seemed like Rick, which was happy and laughing, and he is looking forward to getting another Cb and riding again when he gets the medical bills paid off.
On another thread about Jamboas bike being for sale for $3995 he had made the comment " your killing me smalls" and it confused me so I had to ask him today what it meant. Apparently it is a line from an old baseball movie called Sandlot, where some kids are playing baseball with a ball signed by Babe Ruth, and one kid knowing the value of the ball, made the comment to another. It was an "oh man, I can't believe it" type comment. Funny! If Jamboas bike was in Indiana I have a feeling it would be sitting in Ricks garage waiting for the day when Rick could ride again.
Anyhow he said to tell you all Hi and that it killed him to read of CB4ME's accident.
Hang in there Rick, it was great seeing you again. We are all anxious for the time when you can ride to the next rally!
