Chip Beck Spec Corbin Seat

Chip, how is your Corbin holding up? I called them a few weeks ago to ask some questions about custom options and asked about deleting the tuck and roll as you did. They recommended against it because they said there is a greater chance that the leather will get wavy from stretching and breaking in. I was curious if you have seen any deformity in the leather. Thanks.

My Chip Beck Spec Corbin seat is now over a year old with a lot of miles on it. The seat is perfect and is very comfortable. I have had many Corbin seats built for me over the years for several different brands of motorcycles. None of them have had tuck and roll stitching. The vast majority of the standard seats that Corbin makes do not utilize tuck and roll stitching either. When I ordered my seat Corbin didn't say anything about tuck and roll stitching making the seat more durable, and they were happy to make it to my specifications. I can't say for sure but I believe Corbin says that because they don't want to be building custom seats and it's easier to sell the standard model that they have in stock.

In any event, there are a bunch of Chip Beck Spec CB1100 Corbin seats out there and none of them have had any problems whatsoever. The Corbin seat on my Ducati Monster did not have tuck and roll stitching and it was still perfect after six years of use. If tuck and roll stitching is necessary for seat durability, then why do the vast majority of Corbin seats not have it?

The bottom line is that after a year and a half and a lot of use and miles my seat looks exactly like the day it came out of the box. All the best.
