Again, speaking from my own experience, I've been shopping online with many USA companies for many years and almost all the items come by USPS and Canada Post and have always arrived in good condition and undamaged.
I always specify shipping by USPS because UPS charges brokerage, customs and handling fees right off the top. Add in the cost of shipping and our 93 cent dollar against the US greenback, it's just not worth it. If there is no other option but UPS, and if I can't absolutely do without the item, I'll bite the bullet, otherwise I pass and look elsewhere.
75% of the time my package will arrive at the door free of any customs or handling charges. Canada has relaxed many of the rules (dollar amounts) regarding cross-border shopping and things move along very quickly.
The online shopping business for motorcycle related items is huge and finally there are companies in Canada now that I can deal with. Some even ship free over a certain dollar amount - usually $100.00.
My S&W crash guards just arrived from a Canadian online dealer free of charge.
