Side Stand Foot

A footpad that's always on the bike has its attractions, but beware the hazards of overly large side stand feet. Besides reducing parked lean angle, wider feet proscribe a larger arc and can hit the pavement before the side stand is set. They can also give you a false sense of security. I know this because I dropped one of my bikes twice. The foot was flat with the ground but the side stand hadn't gone past vertical. The slight downward pitch of the ground was all it took for the bike to roll forward and hit the dirt 20 seconds after I walked away. My NC700X no longer wears a foot pad.

The CB1100 has a relatively small side stand foot, and it's sunk in the dirt or grass on many occasions. I decided to make my own low profile pad and have so far escaped any negative consequences.
