Thanks for your input. Yet, I have a hunch it is not about (enough or too little) cooling, but about maintaining a constant cyl. head temperature regardless of power and the available air-stream. That's where air-cooling falls short on any of the 4 cylinders. Together the FI / ECU could even adjust to different temps acorss all 4 cylinders, ... as long as they remained constant.
