Straddled the BMW at the NY MC show, felt nimble, light, looked good. But the bike I pick to click after seeing, crawling around it and sitting on it, is the Kawasaki Versys 300. Blows the BMW away, IMHO,in presence and look (road tests TBA). Just a sweet bike, nicely thought out and finished and a big- boy bike look. I'd strongly consider one as my round-town and fire road machine. I apologize for any distractions in the attached photo.

The BMW will also come in a GS version; either the Kawi or BMW ADV in the 300-size will likely be about the most versatile bike on the planet. Wait'll these guys on the R1200GS get their butts handed to them by some kid on a Versys 300...
