Ride Review of the 1984 Honda V65 Magna ...
#1
This review was done back in August 2016. What I find great is with the availability of modern videography, we can practically re-live the bikes of yesteryear. This convenience was previously not available back then.

In this video, this is the case from the saddle. The bike walk around is weak, but the riding experience is reasonably shared and some Forum members who were fortunate to ride a V65 Magna may resonate with this flick.

I enjoy all the best things the first generation Honda V65 Magna had to offer. It was a bike to be reckoned with when it first came out on the market in 1982 being the fastest production bike at the time, even faster (and heavier) than lighter sport bikes. It also looked very good doing it (in the eye of this beholder).

Hope you enjoy.

I had it's sibling a V65 Sabre. Large, smooth, powerful, great sound. Nice bike but was really too tall/heavy for me. I gave my son my '83 GS1100E Suzuki to make room in the stable for it which was probably a mistake lol. Should have kept the Suzy and skipped buying the V65. I think I only kept the V 65 for a year or so. Sold it after dropping it pulling a U turn with my wife on the back.

I took a V65 Magna for a test ride (had to warm up a suspect coil - yup, it was bad). Went through the gears like I did on the KZ550, looked down and I was doing 90. Incredible motor. PITA to work on the valves though. The Sabre with the sport fairing was uber sexy. Loved the sound. It was basically a four cylinder twin.

Totally agree Rboe. The running Honda V65 engine is very seductive.

Saw one of these on sale on Phoenix Craigslist a few weeks ago. It had the OEM Fairing and OEM side bags. Apparently, it had been stored for the past 25 years, was low mileage and fixed up to ride (i.e. carbs, rubber). I was sorely tempted to pick it up. Then I remembered my vow to quit buying 30 year old bikes, so I could spend more time riding than wrenching. Tongue

I wonder if that what new owners were saying back in '84 regarding predecessor bikes. I am sure the answer is yes. Smile

I'm so lucky I didn't see that ad. I'd be so tempted!!! But tuneups are a royal PITA and four carbs. I"ll pass (logic speaking - who uses logic with motorcycles?! Big Grin ) Now I'll rush off to Craigslist to see if it's still there. Big Grin

I think it disappeared pretty quickly.

I've had great luck with the carbs on my CB750 25 years and 52K miles and I've never had to touch them. That's probably because I've never let the bike sit long enough to gum up the fuel system. The problem I had with buying old used bikes is that they usually sat for a long time and ended up having issues related to that period of dormancy. Mostly seals and rubber parts kept me constantly busy.
