The sputtering while holding a steady 1700 - 2000 rpm seems to be a characteristic of the stock tune of the CB. Some have called it a slow speed stumble. Its the only bike I ever had that did this. It didn't do it while warming up but did at operating temp so it seems the richer warm up fueling prevents it.......seems a little starved for fuel right in that range. Finally I got sick and tired of feathering the clutch all the way through the streets to my house an installed the power commander V. Ran perfect after that. Many owners either dont have this happen or dont think its a problem or work around it by accelerating or decelerating a little to avoid it. I never had the sputtering anywhere above 2000 rpm.
