FWIW, the Honda Blackbird has dual balancers and the engine is dead smooth. I'd imagine that Honda could have given the CB1100 dual balancers but then it'd be too smooth, so a single balance shaft is enough to awaken rose-colored memories but not enough that hands would get tired of holding on to buzzing handlebars...

FWIW #2 my Blackbird has 75,000 miles on it, never felt the need to touch the balancer adjusters (the cam chain tensioner is a whole different story :-( ).
