I saw an electric bike pull into a gas station when the guy he was riding with had to pull in for a fill up. I don't remember the brand of electric bike but it was quite thick and the one impression I was left with as it pulled away was the high pitch whine of the electric motor was unlike anything I'd ever heard. I found the sound obnoxious and have no desire for an electric bike but then I don't think they are being marketed to appeal to my age group.

Interesting, apparently Harley paid particular attention to sound that their electric project bike makes (according to a representative). Best as I can tell from the YouTube videos, their bike sounds a bit like a turbine, not too bad. While I will always want an internal combustion motorcycle, I could see riding an electric bike in rural areas, just for the relative quiet. It's one of the satisfying aspects of road bicycle riding (especially going downhill).. the scenery going by in relative silence..

On an electric motorbike (is that an oxymoron?) you'll still suffer from significant wind noise. Hard to say it's quiet when the noise in your helmet is more than 100 db.

They are actually aimed at the young, city rider market since they won't be too far from home or a charging station.
A news article made the rounds here just a few days ago. Supposedly, Israeli researchers have discovered a method to recharge a cell phone in 30 seconds, and automotive/motorcycle batteries in just minutes. Whatever battery technology they are using, the article stated the size right now is too large, and it is estimated about two years are needed to bring down the size.

Im sure that many motorcycles are going to arrive quickly once the production and marketing starts.

I'd ride an electric bike as long it had 2 wheels a seat and a set of handlebars. Heck just got in from a 53 mile ride on the Majesty 400 scooter. gas and go baby!

ah, right.. 'silence' is a relative term.. I meant to say 'with no internal combustion engine sound'. Hitting 40mph+ on a bicycle is also accompanied by a lot of wind noise at the ears !

He goes 300 miles on a charge and I think he said it's good to go another 300 in 45 minutes.
