Rust on lower fork bracket
#11
It might be road gunk since some of the nastier stuff on the uppermost part came off super easy but some little bits of the same mess were still stuck. Maybe I will try that first and if it's still no good I'll see if warranty covers.

For those that don't speak french : In FRANCE same problem for sure!

Gentlemen, it's important that we document this if it is going to be a common problem so others can keep an eye out for it. Anyone that sees rust anywhere on their bikes, should take good photographs of the problem and post them here. If it is a widespread problem we need to let Honda know. If one person tells Honda it is a problem they can claim isolated case. But if many have the problem I think that will not be the case, and Honda will not be able to fluff it off so easily.

You're right and it Sucks. 1st bike I can't/won't take out anymore if the weather looks questionable.

I wonder what modern bikes have the best track record for being robust against weather and road conditions. There were times when I had no other transportation and rode daily and parked outside all the time....but that was an old BSA that took to the weather pretty well. Ive been riding the Raider for 2 winters and its fine except for getting dirty. Not a good idea for the CB it seems.

I'm going BMW again for my year round/long haul rider....my last 2 showed no weathering over many years.

That's a good idea, particularly because so far, Honda is apparently NOT covering rust and corrosion on at least the fenders. I'm aware of two cases here in FL.

Funny thing; one of the first posts I recall seeing on this forum was a YooToob video of a guy in Japan repairing rust on his rear fender.

I have decided my attitude on this and I'm not going to worry about it. I never thought of the cb as only being a show bike and I wont live long enough for it to become a museum relic, held in pristine condition for years with 600 miles on it for the last 35 years for the sake of cosmetics..

I'm going to just ride it whenever and wherever I feel like it and I might spray that ACF-50 all over the place just for the fun of it. But if the chrome all goes to rust and the aluminum gets all fuzzy that's fine with me. In fact that would make it look more vintage. The resale value of these is pathetic anyway and getting less all the time, so I might as well get my use out of it, come what may. Mechanically it will still be unharmed and will still be a great ride.

I dropped by an authorized dealer and had a guy from the service center take a quick look at my forks, he said he thought it was OK for now because it was all a margin above the little line of dirt/gunk that shows the highest point above where the dust cover has recently touched (that line goes away and comes back when I occasionally wipe down with a microfiber cloth). He said if it starts to be a problem lower on the tube to bring it back and look into warranty coverage on it.

The guy there was pretty nice and helpful, I asked him some things about the valve check (like if he would recommend going to the workshop to learn to do it myself rather than paying the service center to do it) and he said it was a pretty good idea. Normally I figure you'd expect these guys to lean to the side of trying to sell you their work even if you don't need it, so for that they get a thumbs up in my book!

Ack,

Whats with the beak on those things? Is there a practical reason for it?
