I have the hideous and hard to find TBR slip on for my CB1100. It isn't quiet, doesn't look great, but sounds like Jericho's trumpet, so I'm pretty happy.

Another stock exhaust fas here, although if I weren't I'd probably go Staintune.

I must say though I recently rode about 2000 miles behind MTC on his Yoshimura equipped CB and was surprised how civil it sounded. Not loud at all.

Exhaust systems are like a woman's perfume ... you can't have the same scent for too long. Mine was stock for about 200KM then a very mild 4:1 and now a wild sounding 4:2. From the look on a Highway Patrol officer's face during last weekend's ride there's a good chance that a little extra packing will have to go into my mufflers soon.

I am a newly minted CB1100 owner and wanted to get everyone's opinion on the stock exhaust system. I love my bike and appreciate all the great and subtle details that make it awesome but am finding the exhaust to be too quiet. It is almost to the point of me feeling its lack of "speaking up" makes it tougher for people to notice me in city traffic. I know this is easily remedied by getting an aftermarket exhaust, but I wanted to know if other members similarly felt the stock system is a bit quiet for their tastes and also, the best aftermarket system for a nice sound (not necessarily the loudest).

In busy traffic motorists often don't see each other, and they are sitting in huge vehicles with pairs of large lights front and rear. If you are front of them they would likely see you, although they might not respect the space you are in.

If you are behind them, it is unlikely they will hear you with the windows up, air conditioning and radio or phone on. If you have stood by a busy road lately, you would realize the horrendous amount of noise traffic makes. As motorists we do not hear it.

I wear ear plugs. It always amazes me when I remove them how much noise surrounds us. Pulled into a Tim Hortons for my afternoon break, ice coffee and a maple dip donut. At the end of the building was a tractor trailer delivering food. It was not until I removed my ear plugs did I realize that it was rattling away.

So unless you intend to use an obnoxiously loud exhaust, I doubt things would change. Actually you would probably be treated with less respect unless you look like this.

+1 for the Staintune with its refined looks, great sound and considerable weight savings.

I think Honda may have heard this complaint many times over the last few years, and did something about it. The twin mufflers on the new EX model are less restrictive and a lot less quiet.

I was surprized when I first started up my new CB. My salesperson Jim immediately remarked "Nice sound eh?" He had driven it around the lot before I arrived. Pretty high praise from someone that rides a big Ducati.

Stock was too quiet for me. I got the Delkevic slip on muffler. Reasonable price, good sound but not too loud.

Personally, I like the look of the stock exhaust, but I agree it's too quiet. You could always do what I did, and "adjust" the sound a little:

I think the GPR is the best sound out there for our bike. Not as well known but great sound. YouTube it.
