cb1100 RS wheel conversion
#1

So, this is my project for next year: Converting my 2014 st.d with 18" wheels to 17" wheels (not spoked). i'm halfway between going all out and getting magnesium wheels for maximum weight savings, but i'm not completely sold on the idea yet. First, I want to explore the idea of simply getting the OEM wheels for the RS and slapping them on. it seems like an easy enough thing to do, but then again i've never seen an RS in person, so i'm calling on you folks in Europe and other markets where the RS is available to help me out with this.

First off, check your local Ebay and parts websites and let me know if there are used CB1100 RS wheels available for sale, and what the average price is. I've been trying to do this using foreign VPN's but i just want to make sure i'm hitting all the right websites to get a good idea of what's for sale. Thanks in advance for any prices you can send back to me.

Second off, For anybody that owns an RS, can you confirm that the wheels are mounted in the same way and would work as a straight swap to a 2014 model? The parts diagrams look very similar, but of course i'm not knowledgable enough to make that determination just from looking at those.

Finally, for RS owners, how jealous should i be of your awesome 17" tires? Biker

Fat tire always look more sexy Big Grin.
One concern is the gap of the swing arm, if it's large enough for the RS rim, as the tire is 180.

i hadn't thought of that at all. perhaps using the OEM RS wheels isn't an option for this conversion, and i should focus on aftermarket 17" wheels. Is there a measurement I can take to determine once and for all whether the RS wheel would fit on the standard swingarm?

I can see from some minor research that the swingarms between the '14 CB and the '17 RS are in fact different parts.

I just did some checking and the 17 EX and the 17 RS use the same swingarm.

Here are some links to Ebay UK on the wheels.

Quite helpful, thank you randyB. this seems to confirm my suspicion that almost no "used" ones are for sale. these are all factory new replacement parts (which is fine, i just wanted to gauge the availability of used ones).

It's looking like (based on what itstuantran brought up), i may have to actually change to an RS swingarm as well if i wanted to use those wheels. So, if i buy aftermarket magnesium 17" wheels that fit my existing swingarm, or buy CB1100 RS wheels with a replacement RS swingarm, it seems like i'm paying the same amount of money either way.

thus, my initial hypothesis that using the RS wheels would be much cheaper than the magnesium wheels does not hold water. Looks like i'm doomed to the poorhouse either way.

I would say have someone with a 17 or 18 EX in the UK measure the inside of the swingarm and see what you're looking at before you nix the idea completely.

true, but probably a little better to have somebody with a 17 or 18 RS measure the inside of the swingarm.
