CB Custom - Speedo/Tach Wiring Issues
#1

New here, working on my first custom 2014 CB1100 "Standard" non-abs. I decided to go with a digital gauge (daytona) but im having trouble finding the right wiring diagram for my model. The one I have doesnt add up. Wrong colors, missing wires. Im just trying to tap into the existing harness but having trouble decoding the ecm and looking for anyone who has went digital or has the proper diagram and wiring description they can share. I know most on here are "traditionalists" when it comes to the CB which I respect but Im new school and dont like having matching bikes. Thanks in advance.

Welcome CafeBandit. If you would send a CLEAR picture of the wiring diagram for the aftermarket gauges, we'll see if we can help.

I've installed Trail-Tech Vapor digital meters on other bikes, but I doubt you'll find anyone on this forum who's installed a Daytona Deva 01 on a CB1100.

This is not simply plug-and-play. It is a universal meter and some functions are not compatible. Some calibration and troubleshooting may be needed, and some things will simply not function.

There will be no FI warning light, so you won't know if there is a code or be able to read it. Also, no low fuel warning light, and the temp indicators will be blank. There's also a good chance the speed sensor impulse won't work, in which case you'll have to use the supplied magnetic speed sensor.

In looking at the instructions and the wiring diagram, I marked where I would connect wires were it my bike, but consider it just my interpretation. If a wrong wire is attached in the wrong spot, you could fry your meter, the ECM, and the harness - it's your risk to take. You might want to get other opinions first, or you might want to disregard this post and pic - I won't be offended.

I can't remember who it was, but someone started a thread on an aftermarket digital instrument cluster. There was discussion about how to make it work properly and whoever it was eventually had success. I think.

I've had a quick look, but I don't have time now for the long search that might be required.

If anyone wants to weigh in on the harness connections, please do.

Thank you all. Yeah, its a brand new gauge from Daytona. They themselves dont even have a lot of info for me, too soon for google also. Im just winging it at this point. I know its risky but it will be worth it in the end. Thanks to the plandemic I have nothing but time.

I currently still have the original gauges connected and stored under the seat so hopefully it will run as designed but with the digital aesthetics if i could just tap in. The install manual showed that if the rpm and speed pulse were connected to the ecm , it would give me the gear indication. But i just cant figure out the ecm wires. The ones i followed from the rear speed sensor (pink/white) (green/red) are not giving me anythingm ive tried many variations to get a reading but nothing.

Ive read before about the serial data bus but again I cant figure out which wire, to test it out. The tacho is labled clearly but again nothing happens when I tap in. I grounded the new gauge, connected positive to batt. Dont know if that matters or not but cant think of what else could keep it from reading. I got the power, nuetral, gas, turn signals so far, not concerned with the temps or warnings because of the stock gauges.

I guess I will have to used the after market speed sensor, and rpm reader on the coil but that leaves me with no gear indicator, unless of course I install a seperate one. Kinda defeats the all in one digital but thats worse case.
