Guess what year......a random conversation
#1
"Nice bike!" (The speaker a grizzled old timer wearing an old Harley shirt.)
"What year is it? " he continues.
"Guess!" I reply, ever on the lookout for knowledge.
"1978?"
"Nope, 2013."
"I didn't know they made them like that anymore!"

I wonder how many times per day this conversation is approximately repeated somewhere in the US?

LOl my favorite I think was with Randy B..happened 3 years ago when the bikes first came out. A guy approached him and asked him what year it was. Randy B said 2013. The guy said, no, I meant the bike. lol

Funny! I was finishing lunch at a local bar & grill Friday, my bike was parked just outside the front door and I was getting geared up for the ride home. A guy came rushing out of the b&g to ask me what year my CB was. He guessed 1978 and I ended up educating him about our modern retros. Beer

With its DOHC, 1979 would have been a more reasonable guess. 1978 was the final year of the SOHC engine. Picky, I know.

Best one I had was a guy at a gas station literally was freakishly excited....at the end of his rant he asked if he could touch it? I was like okay.......

This thread is relevant to my interests. Smile

I am changing things on my bike that don't fit the old style. I am just shooting more for the late 70's early 80's style rather than the early 70's. Too many things Honda did in new style that they shouldn't have.

So things I changed that in my mind didn't fit the bike-

Got rid of the seat and put on a tuck rolled, leather grain patterned, high step seat.

Replaced the handle bars with ones that have more pull back and are wider- still factory Honda and have the holes for the bar weights.

Switched out the 2014 handlebar controls for the 2013 as their style is more appropriate.

Switched out the 2014 blinkers for the 2013 as their size and lens style is more appropriate.

Switched out the plastic chain guard for a chrome metal one.

Took off the seat garnish side grab bars and installed a round tube chrome grab bar.

Rlets of course.

Old style engine guards

I have a few ideas left, but have to brainstorm how to get done what I want to get done. I'll post pics when the project is finished.

I have only a few tanks of gas through the bike since I bought it in July so have not had a chance for anyone to see it in a parking lot yet.

A few times I also was approached by fellows, thinking my CB1100 was a modern classic and they complimented the good condition/restoration of my motorcycle.

Indeed I didn't really like it as it felt as if I had a fake bike and was cheating.

I had virtually that exact conversation on Saturday at the grocery store. The only difference was that the guy wasn't wearing a Harley T-shirt, but he was riding an old Sportster.

that is funny , two guys at the red light were arguing if it was a 70 or 71.
Service manager at the local Triumph / Ducati / Augusta shop posted this and my son sent it to me.
