Pdedse enquired whether later models from other markets had this feature. My findings show that they don't, even up to the current year.

So if '18 and newer models don't have any dampening feature, and obviously the '17 doesn't either, yet the '17 sqeaks but newer models don't...then there must be something else that's different between the two braking systems...?

I'm guessing that many of the newer models squeak too. Not all '17s seem to squeak.

IMO; Brake squeal comes from pad vibration. I did not check the parts fiche, however, on automotive side, the OEM uses shims behind the pads to dampen the vibration thus reducing the noise.
Manufacturing brake pads is like baking cookies, the pads placed on the outer and inner tray are not heated evenly, so there are discrepancies from the same batch.
Some chamfer (angle) made at the leading edge of the pads materials may reduce the vibration. Some manufacturers have added the chamfer to alleviate the issue.
That's my 5 cents on brake squeal noise.
