Like me once you put engine guards on you'll never drop it again. I managed to drop the sucker in the driving rain shortly after paying for it. Had to wait 8 days for a clutch handle. Put guards on & doubt if it'll ever happen again. Touch wood!!!

You need to get the training to let it down gently.
Thankfully, I've only had to use it three times.

I missed your story, offroad. Holy smokes! Sounds like you thought quick and saved yourself.
I have a similar story. About a month after I bought my F800GT, I was waiting at a gas station for a car to pull forward so I could access the pump. To my surprise the car was put into reverse and backed right at me. Mind you, I'm sitting there in hi-viz helmet and jacket. Before I could recover from my surprise and toot the horn, the rear bumper made contact with the bike's front tire and started pushing the bike over. It started to go over hard and I just leaped clear like you did. I think the repair estimate was $3500. I think I only replaced a bar end, decided to live with the scratched case, and proceeded to spend most of the money on accessories.

Hey, they're motorcycles. The neat thing is you had an awesome day of riding in sunny CA. A scratch here and there, who cares? Just think, if you had plastics all over (e.g. H2, Ninja 1000), engine head hanging out (r1200), a big fancy fairing (r1200 rt or similar). you could have had more fuss. Instead you picked it up and went on another cool ride !
