Corbin seat arrived and.......
#1

I tried to edit my original post title in the thread I started http://cb1100forum.com/forum/showthread.php?tid=18016 but it's not permitted so I'll post the update on ordering a Corbin seat. For reference this is what we put on my order:
Remove backrest hardware.
Raise back portion of seating area 1/2".
Customer wants a more flattened seat.
Black vinyl seating, asphalt sides, no welt, black threads and logo.

The stock seat for me was a little narrow, too soft, and positioned me too close to the tank, I would push myself rearward but the forward slope and rise at the back of the seating area kept sliding me forward.

The seat just arrived, it fits well, and is exactly what I wanted... basically a nice flat, slightly wider, firm, seating surface. The following measurements will give you a comparison. Basically the Corbin seat is about the same overall width as stock, only it's almost as wide at the seating surface as the base, whereas the stock seat is wide at the base but tapers inward to give a 2" narrower seating surface.

Maximum width: Stock 12.25", Corbin 12.75".
Max effective width: Stock 9.25", Corbin 11.5"
Effective width half way toward nose: Stock 6.75", Corbin 8.5"
Width at nose the same.
Depth to rise from nose: Stock 12.75", Corbin 14.25".

Anyway the seat is exactly what I was hoping for and is perfect for me at 5-11", 190#, 32" inseam. For anyone (maybe shorter arms?) who finds the stock seat position about right you will find the standard rise location on this seat a little too far rearward so I'd recommend also having Corbin move the rise forward 1".

Ollie that is very well done, probably the best looking corbin i have seen on an 1100 so far.
What if you listed all the parts of the order form so others may follow your example?
That seems to be a "privacy" thing or something.
I'm sure you want to post how it feels on the cb once a few miles have passed, as others would be interested too.

Thanks guys! I just returned from a 75 mile ride ride and I never had to shift positions, in fact I had to consciously think about the seat because it is so comfortable!
The italicized lines at the first of my post are Corbin's work order description for anyone who would like the same configuration. I'll see if who made it is on it as well.

Just "one more thing" Ollie; have a look at the space between the corbin and the fuel tank, i had to adjust the seat a bit back by taking the back locking loop out and bending it so the seat went back enough.
It still is a bit close and i put some clear tape on the tank in the place where dust could settle and scratch the paint.
Better protect the paint before it has scratches on it, you should be able to slide a piece of paper between the tank and the seat without any friction at all.

It's funny that you say this because when I went to Corbin in 2014 I did just this. I felt like it was pulling me back too far from the bars and I had them add about 1" of foam at the rear of the seat cup to push me forward, and that did the trick for me.
I have a thread on my visit to Corbin and the construction of the seat, but the pictures may not be viewable because they are hosted on photobucket and that site lost it's mind and is sinking....fast.

EDIT: here is a link to the thread.

Thanks, I just checked and the only place the Corbin touches the tank is about an inch at the lower right side. If it scuffs there it wouldn't matter because it's hidden by the seat itself, but I put a strip of clear film there anyway. The tank paint is already abraded where the stock seat fits against it but there again it's hidden except when the seat is off. When waxing tanks I always apply extra wax there.

A standard Corbin seat's bucket is rearward about 1.25" compared to the stock seat. Anyone who likes the seating position of the stock seat should have Corbin move the riders bucket forward an inch. On the other hand if you wish you could shift back a little on the stock seat the Corbin will allow this. I find myself mostly back against the bump and it's nice not being slid forward. But it's nice to be able to shift forward a couple inches to the middle of the bucket just to change position once in a while because that section is comfortable too. This is where being flat along with the extra width in the middle of the bucket really helps.
