What to do with the handlebar mounts when converting to clip-on controls?
#1

As the title says, I'm trying to come up with some valid ideas on what to do with the mounting positions of the old handlebar clamps in the triple in the event that I should hypothetically change my controls to clip ons.

Woodcraft makes a really nice set of adjustable side mount clip ons with 3" risers and extra long bars, which i'm considering as a part of a series of modifications to make my CB just a bit more aggressive on the ergos to cope with my riding style. However, I'm at a loss as to what to do with the holes left in the triple by the original handlebar clamps. Is there something useful I can do with this? I'm sure I could just jam a bolt in there or something to fill it but I feel like it's an opportunity to put something cooler in.

If anybody has converted a handlebar to clip ons on any motorcycle in the past and you had a way of dealing with these cavities, Please let me know. I need ideas.

Haven't done anything like that but I'm sure you could put a RAM mount for at least 1 of those holes.

Or, you could get a custom made upper triple and bypass those holes alltogether. Never used these guys before but they seem to have great workmanship in their products... https://cognitomoto.com/products/custom-...2956138611

cognito would certainly have the cleanest option but also the most expensive. woof. AGRAS also makes a full clip on- billet top clamp for a lot less than that and it includes the clip ons and risers. I'd rather go JDM in that case.

either way replacing the top clamp is a massive expense i don't think I need to get into. I'd sooner just get flatter, lower handlebars and forego the clip ons altogether.

Way above my pay-grade. Really interested in what you come up with.

Why not find two decorative caps that will fill the holes, paint them the same color as the top clamp, and attach?

I suppose because I'm not sure if such caps are already purpose built or what size they would be or anything. I did some searching already and came up empty. I figured that meant I was missing some terminology that others might have run across in their experience. improvisationally, I'd probably just go searching stainless steel button cap screws until I found the right length and diameter, put a rubber washer and a steel washer under both sides and just tighten it down. However, it also occurred to me that maybe there's some useful or creative alternative i'm not thinking of.

I found this option: https://jokermachine.com/products/handle...plug-black for $29 might be others out there.

Have you tried looking at a well stocked hardware store for a plug or cap that might work? That would likely be a just a few dollars at most.
