Intermittent fuel pump
#1
Hi all. My bike stalled in traffic recently, the dealer replaced the fuel relay. Now it has been intermittently deciding to start. Sometimes when I turn the key, it all cycles and pressurized, other times, not a peep from the fuel pump. Any ideas? I have the telephone book size manual for the bike but I’m really hoping to not have to take apart the tank and pump. I’m only at 12500 miles

QUINTastic, check back to [url=http://cb1100forum.com/forum/showthread.php?tid=14332&pid=241508#pid241508]this post from max. I can't find the post from Flynrider that max references. I'd start with the kill switch.

Have you eliminated the kill switch? I and a few others have had similar problems due to corrosion on the contacts.

The easiest way to rule out the kill switch is to watch for the 'check engine' light when you turn the key and don't hear the fuel pump. Normally, the check engine light will come briefly as the fuel pump cycles and the gauges sweep. If you don't see the check engine light come on and you don't hear the fuel pump cycle, the problem could be an intermittent connection in the kill switch.

Edit : Here's the last page of my previous post on the kill switch issue.

Attempted to delete my response, as this was well covered by Max in Cormanus' post two link and Flynrider in post three link...while I was typing.

I haven’t eliminated it yet. I was in the process when my neighbor came over to chat. The process involves unplugging the kill switch and right side controls from in the headlight. But one even more odd thing is that it has started without the fuel pump pressurizing before.. possibly because it still has pressure, I don’t know.. but I have this slew of things to go over before I buy a pump

Also- twice it has started and died after a few seconds.
