ohiorider, the CB does a great job on a long trip even without panniers. For me it's a top box plus waterproof duffel (or two depending on whether I'm camping). See [url=http://cb1100forum.com/forum/showthread.php?tid=10076]The (incomplete) Cormanus Chronicles for the the latest touring saga.

And there was that couple that were doing a ride from USA to South America but had to quit due to health issues in Central America.
