Pannier mounts for Givi E21 Monokey or HB 30L Juniors - ohiorider_imp - 01-28-2017

I will be taking delivery of my 2014 CB 1100 as soon as the weather breaks here in NE Ohio. I'd like to be ahead of the game, and buy a set of pannier mounts. I currently own a set of Givi E21 bags I would prefer to use. If nothing available for them, could pull HB 30 Liter Juniors off my Moto Guzzi 1200 Sport. Prefer to use the Givi on the CB.

I've found mounts at Twisted Throttle (SW Motech,) but they are rather pricey.

Any suggestions for less expensive mounts that would permit me to mount my E21 bags?

Hi ohiorider. Great question. I too have been looking into bracket mount options. So far, other then fabrication, I've found Hepco & Becker brackets for the Jr's and as you mentioned the SW Motech brackets for TraX line, Givi, Shad, pelican and a few others.

Apparently there isn't much at a low price. When I owned a W650 (several years ago - 2000 - 2007) I purchased a set of Five Star mounts and E21 bags for little more than $300 for all of it. Guess those days are gone. But anyway, glad to join the CB forum, and am looking forward to picking up my 2014 model from the dealer as soon as the weather breaks.

Thanks to all for the 'welcome to the forum' greetings. Guess I should sign into the new members section. Re the pannier racks, looks like a phone call to Twisted Throttle might be in order. I need to confirm whether their SW Motech racks will work with the older E21 Givi bags.

I was a Givi dealer for many years and sometimes people would
want to mount bags on old bikes that there were not mounts for.
If you are very handy and have access to a good amount of tools
you can make your own mounts. You can get the mount point parts
from Givi for not a lot of money.

Most started with Alm. stock, but it would be very hard with out
having the bike so to find good mount points.
Most home made mounts I have seen do not look very good Confused

My Quota spoiled me for locking hard bags, but wallet has horse collared me into soft bags. Maybe a hard top case. Big Grin

I've only done a long weekend on mine and used a water proof duffle from Wolfman. I like soft luggage because it's cheaper, typically you don't need mounts (cheaper) and once off the bike, you don't have mount residue cluttering up the looks.

You may prefer to tour on the Sport vs. the CB (I find the Guzzi lump a nice fit for long rides). Although I tend to poo-poo the CB for touring, when I did use it I was pleasantly surprised at how good it was; I shouldn't forget that. Now, after hauling the CB in the pickup to the last rally I'm very very tempted to use the 650L for rally's, and just take everything in the truck. Problem solved! Beer

I say that and I was thinking of taking the bike back to Minnesota for a high school reunion - if they have one this year. My mind says I'm still young. My bum says I'm a bit older. Tongue

Rboe, you're probably correct ...... the old (2008) Guzzi 1200 Sport has already proven to be a mile-eater. With HB 30L Junior bags, Bagster tank bag, and HB rear rack, she holds as much as I need on a multi-day trip. The 1151cc two valve v-twin is an excellent sport touring engine.

However, riding the CB 1100 on an extended trip doesn't seem outside this bike's capabilities. Two of us rode our 2001 and 2003 790cc Triumph Bonnevilles from Cleveland, Ohio to N Mexico, Arizona, Utah, Wyoming, and home several years ago, and that size bike worked nicely.

I believe the CB1100, with a set of hard bags, rear rack, and tank bag would do a good job on a similar trip. Hope to test this theory out later this summer!

Now, if it'd just quit snowing, get up to 60 degrees F, so I can get my CB home!
