I have been in the process of refurbishing a 1981 CB650C which had some kind of semi clear finish on the aluminum engine side covers. I was working on the bike anyway, so the removal of the covers, striping the 'paint', and polishing out the corrosion with #600 grit wet/dry sandpaper (I used oil to wet the grit), then polishing with Mothers aluminum polish and their foam polishing ball resulted in a beautiful polished look.
I have no commercial interest in the product, it simply was available on the shelf, and I liked how it worked.
It wasn't hard to do, but I can agree it would be difficult to justify disassembling a new bike that should be delivered looking finished. I opted for a 2014 Std because of the black finish on the motor. I just need a change from both plastic, and the polished aluminum.
