That's a good question. Dave was just emailing me something similar. I'll rip it apart again tommorow, now that I'm confident and familiar on how it all comes apart and goes back together.max_imp said:That sounds not right, back to basics; if you remove the fuel pump relay ( to get rid of the sound ) and switch the ignition on can you hear the iacv adjusting itself every time ?
And what happens when you connect the old iacv externally ?
Air leak? I'm confused...no air leak mentioned.Lord Popgun_imp said:Are you saying you have an air leak potentially causing your problem now? I’m a tad confused.
No worries!!! Its all good. I have a new screw in the place of the stripped screw. It's all good and secure. Not sure why the idle is still so high. Maybe a bad part from Honda. It's not the updated part #Lord Popgun_imp said:Sorry, I saw you mentioned the plenum and striped screws and just thought…
Interesting theory on the ecu. My son and I were talking this morning and he thought maybe something in the throttle cable. For giggles I unplugged just the iacv and fired up the bike and it was straight up 1750 rpms, just as it was with the iacv plugged in. Then I unplugged the plug on the left side on the penlum marked Keihen and that brought it down to the 1050 rpms.Lord Popgun_imp said:Cormanus, there could be another problem. Going by the service manual, which is about totally useless for this problem, it could also be the ECU.
I would not just jump on that though. Too many other things to check first. Plus we haven’t had ANY reports of failed ECU’s IIRC. But that was one reason Max wanted to know if the IACV was moving upon ignition on.
Thank you sir! I am not sure what to do moving forward. I may order the newer/updated part#. I am racking my brain not understanding how the new part has either failed, or was faulty or another problem exists, and where that problem is. I go back to a hot, really hot day, mostly being on first or second gear for a long period of time. The procession of bikes was long and took a long time to get to town. The idle got very low and eventually did stall the bike. Once the bike was re started the high idle started.Lord Popgun_imp said:Gordo, the Keihin plug is the Throttle Position Sensor.
Gordo it is possibly helpful to point out here that the procedure i advised was to bring the engine up to temperature and 1100 rpm, at that point the iacv was disconnected and the bike driven with the iacv in that unchanging ( disconnected ) position to isolate the iacv from the rest of the possibilities.Gordo_imp said:It's interesting that once the iacv was disconnected the idle went back to normal rpms. When I disconnect mine, the rpms go straight to 1750. I will try the reposition trick with the throttle. Anything's possible! Thank you all for taking the time out and supplying me with some ideas and helping me along!
