Optional New Feature: Adding the CB1100 Forum "Web App" to Your Phone or Tablet

Please Note: For most of us who browse the forum on a desktop or laptop computer, absolutely nothing changes! The website remains exactly as you know it, and you do not need to do anything differently.

However, if you ever check the forum on your smartphone or tablet, whether in the garage, on a road trip, or relaxing on the couch, we have enabled a simple feature called a Progressive Web App.



This feature lets you place a dedicated CB1100 Community Forum icon on your device's home screen. With a single tap, it opens the forum in a clean, full-screen view without browser address bars, and can optionally send you alerts when someone replies to your post or updates a thread you are following.

(Because this runs directly through modern web standards, you will not find it by searching the Apple App Store or Google Play Store. It is added directly through your web browser using the simple steps below, courtesy of Cormanus and pdedse, who tasked me with making it easier to access the Forum on smart devices.)

Step-by-Step Setup​

For Apple Devices (iPhone & iPad)

Make sure you use the default Safari browser for this setup:

1. Open Safari, go to the forum, and log in to your account.
2. Tap the Share button at the bottom (or top) of your screen—it looks like a square with an arrow pointing upward.
3. Scroll down the menu and tap Add to Home Screen.
4. Check that the option "Open as Web App" is toggled ON (green) if shown, then tap Add in the top-right corner.
5. Go to your home screen and tap the new CB1100 icon. (Because Apple treats this as a fresh, standalone app container, you may need to log in one final time here to establish your session).

For Android Devices (Phones & Tablets)

Use the standard Google Chrome browser for this setup:

1. Open Chrome, go to the forum, and log in.
2. Tap the three vertical dots in the upper-right corner of the browser.
3. Tap Install app (or Add to Home Screen), then confirm the prompt.
4. Go to your home screen and open the forum directly from the new CB1100 icon.

Enabling Notification Alerts (Optional)​

If you would like your phone to notify you when someone responds to your posts or sends you a private message:

1. Open the forum from your new home screen icon.
2. If a banner pops up along the bottom offering push notifications, tap Enable push notifications.
3. Alternatively, tap your username or avatar, go to Account Preferences, and select Enable push notifications.
4. When your phone displays a system prompt asking for permission to send notifications, tap Allow.

If you prefer to keep browsing the forum through your normal web browser as you always have, feel free to ignore this entirely. We simply wanted to provide an optional tool for those who want an easier mobile experience.
