SW-MOTECH Engine Guards Installed

Just installed a set of SW-MOTECH engine guards. Great quality, fast shipping, instructions, perfect fit, included needed fasteners and even nice plastic caps to cover the bolt heads. Very easy & quick to install.

Do you foresee any cornering clearance issues? The Motech ones look nice in black. Just want to make sure before I pull the trigger.

I chose the same ones in black, and like you, found them easy to install, and they look great.
I looked at a few others, but always came back to SW.
I don't see how they could possibly touch the ground. If they do I think you're already heading for the weeds.

I went the same route. Looks factory (if you notice them at all). They are a great aid in righting the bike if you drop it. I posted a video earlier picking up the bike off of my lawn and rocking it up on to the case savers made the job much easier.

I don't see any problem with them scraping the ground. Rboe brings up a good point. In black, they blend right into the frame and if someone looks closely, they look like factory guards. Perfect, beautiful fit. They seemed to have really thought-out the details. Now to mount my PIAA lights ! Rocket

I just brought up the clearance issue because I recall reading somewhere that some "crash bars" have actually caused crashes due to limited clearance. Glad to hear that's not the case 'cause I really like these.

A very strong case can be made that you have no business pushing it that hard on a public street and case savers are generally not used on the track. On the street, with sand, dead animals, stranded cars, pedestrians (in Arizona we have Javallina, rabbits - large ones, deer, antelope - well you get the picture. Too many variables out to kill you to be pushing it that hard. Besides; it's a shared road, poor form to behave like a squid out there.

I have a hard enough time scraping my toes, much less pegs or other hard things (sometimes you over cook a corner, or find yourself in the middle of a decreasing radius turn and the envelope must be pushed); I can't imagine scraping a case saver. I'm sure there are guys out there skilled enough to do it. Just not me.

Seriously, though, you make a good point. Public streets are not the place to be pushing the limits. Out here in So. Cal. though there are some mountain canyon roads (Angeles Crest Hwy, ie) where bikers (particularly sport bikers) are always pushing it pretty hard. Lots of wannabe Valentino Rossi's up there. Consequently, a lot of them end up on the great highway to heaven.

I swapped out a set of chrome Over crash bars with a set of black SW-Motech bars to tone down my bike and I love them.

On crash bar clearance, only the Kimja bars had issues. Unlike most crash bars, they stick straight out at the bottom instead of immediately angling upwards. This clearly reduces cornering clearance.

And as far as going crazy on a bike, pick your spots carefully - no traffic, no people or houses, good familiar roads, dry clean pavement, and excellent wide open sight lines. Those usually last only short distances but are fun when you desire to exercise your bike.
