Lowering the Brake Pedal
#1

Hi guys,

I was wondering if anyone had any experience or insight into the brake pedal. I'm 6'2 and it is becoming arthritic to my ankles at the angle I have to keep my foot at in order to brake. I either rest it on the foot pedal and have to come on top of the pedal precious seconds late, or I hover over it but have it cramp up.

My idea is to lower the pedal and I'm wondering if this would be dangerous or a compromise on safety. This is only my second season and I want to make sure I don't do anything stupid.

Any advice would be awesome guys. Stay safe out there everyone.

We just had 2 threads on this. Give them a read.
Added: You can lower or raise it a tad with the (factory)adjustment, or do something like White dog.

Try lowering the lever first. Look at the master cylinder thru the peg holder. You will see a threaded rod with 2 nuts on it. The large one is a locking nut. Just loosen it, then turn the small nut down. As you turn this nut you can see the lever move downward. (If it goes up, turn the small nut the opposite direction.) You can get about 1/2" difference in the height of the lever. Tighten the large nut. If more is needed, remove the peg holder assembly and remove the brake lever and have it bent like I did mine. Honda told me "I was riding the brake pedal" which caused the rotor to warp from excess heat and began binding up against the caliper. My lever is a good 2" below the rubber foot peg now. Braking is not an issue. I just have to bend my foot further down to depress the lever (but I seldom use the rear brake for normal braking.)

Awesome, thank you! I figured it out in the end but it was a bit hard to angle my wrench into. Ultimately lowered it enough so I'm not riding the brake anymore. Thanks again man. Be safe out there. Smile

Hi dog, thanks for the tip. It was a bit hard to angle into without removing the peg holder, and the little rubber thing obscured the top nut so I didn't immediately recognize what I was looking for but ultimately, got a good 1/2" difference. I think it's already a huge difference in riding comfort, but if not, I may have to bend it like with yours. Thanks for chiming in with the tips man. Wishing you safe riding karma.

Cheers~

Riverhustler,

I didn't bend mine, White Dog and another member did. I just adjusted mine down some. Just make sure you have either some threads showing or 1mm space between the brake lever surface and the threaded rod, depending on which way you adjust.

Glad you got it!
