Arrow slip on and TechSpec tank pads
#1

Got the Arrow slip on installed. Actually getting it on took 20 minutes tops but then I went to pull the baffle out. Got the tab off easy enough but the baffle would not come out. It moved a little but then just stopped. It was kind of off center in the pipe so it was hitting on one side more than other.
Started it up and let it run for a little bit and hoped heat expansion would allow the little bit of clearance I needed. Not happening.
In the video I saw of sound comparison the guy just slid the baffle right in and out easily but the situation was typically fitting of my luck.
Proceeded to take the end cap off and in the process noticed that some of the Torx head screws holding it on were a bit stripped. Looks like they sent me a return that some idiot tried to use Allen head tools to remove the Torx head screws to try and get the baffle out. Maybe he forgot to remove the tab. Got them all out and pulled the cap/baffle off. Had to rap the baffle's end pretty good about 5 times with a heavy hammer to get it out of the end cap but it's out. If I don't like the sound I'll do the baffle mod the guy did in the aforementioned video and pop it back in but it will be there forever unless I get a bunch of new screws to hold the end cap on. It will go back in without removing the end cap with a piece of wood and a hammer. I used a Torx bit on them and they seated well without further stripping but don't trust them not to strip more tightening them down again.
Maybe I'll write Arrow or Motovation Accessories and see if they can send replacements without me having to run down to Home Depot/Loews or a Marine supply store for decent stainless replacements and hope they actually have the right size I'll need.
I had TechSpec tank pads on my Triumph and liked the snakeskin type pattern and construction so I checked in with them on some for the CB hoping I could make a pattern and they would cut it. Turns out they already had a "custom" pattern for the CB1100 available so I went for it as well as a little strip for the middle of the tank.
I like the way they look and from my past experience should function well.
Going to ride tomorrow and see how both mods turned out.
Last ride I used some gel padded cycling shorts I used to use with my Triple to try and combat the sore butt after 40 minutes and it certainly helped but a new seat will be in my future.

It's loud without the baffle but nit too bad. I'll stick with it for awhile and see.

Lookin' good! I need to do the TechSpec tank pads too - knowing now that they already have a pattern for the CB1100, I think I'm gonna pull the trigger! Thanks!

I sent melissa@techspec-usa.com (the person I dealt with through email for the order after inquiring via email if they could cut me a set from a pattern for the CB) some pics of the pads installed and a thank you for helping me and she said from my pics she feels the design can be improved so mention that to her.
From what I can tell it looks like maybe the bottom half of the pads could follow the line of the bottom of the tank better but I'm satisfied with the way they look.

They do look good. But I can see where they could be cut better to follow the tank lines.

Some RLETs would set them right off Smile

I like the knee pads too, but like you I think they could have been cut better to follow the lines of the tank.
They look a bit too "abbreviated."

I actually appreciate that they don't cover that whole portion of the tank. My knees can't reach up there anyway. On my ride they seemed to be in a perfect position.
I bought RLETs and one of them was already split at the seam so it split entirely trying to put it on! Maybe I'll eventually try again with a new one. The other one was intact but didn't bother with it. For now it will sit in the toolbox until I feel like buying another single one. Not a lot of money but annoying to have to spend it more than once or spend the time and money to ship back the damaged one for an exchange.

Never install just one RLET. Upset the balance of the force, you will.

There is balance. Second one I ordered wasn't split on the seam already.
