CB1100 Backrest Project
#1

Here is my second CB1100 project, a Custom Removeable Backrest.
My wife can't really ride without one, and though I kind of cherish riding alone I figure I better keep on her good side.

So here is a jpeg of my CAD file so far. I am going to paint mine black, probably have it powder coated but not sure. I did the best I could measuring the bike for this, but if it actually fits the first time I will be very surprised!

I will have my laser guy cut out the main sheet metal bracket tonight, and having my press brake guy bend it up hopefully by wednesday.

That is so cool. I love this cad stuff. I always used a pencil for my drawings. Using a computer is just too cool. Some of you guys are so smart. I feel like my dad.

LOL Thanks, I am only 2 years into this cad stuff. Some dudes are just incredible at it. I have the basics down, kinda.. There is a lot to learn. Luckily I get to do it for a job and am learning and collecting a paycheck at the same time. Score!

Very cool! The mounting system looks pretty trick and should make for easy on/off. I'll be watching this with great interest! Thumbs Up

Here is a picture for all interested in the process. This is my laser "nest" of the 2 sets of sides I will be cutting out to start with. Depending on how the forming (bending/press brake) goes, I should be able to make 2 good backrests. Sometimes forming does not go so good so its good to have an extra part or two..

These left and right bracket sides will be welded together and painted to create the look of a solid one piece bracket after I make sure they fit up ok.

I use an Amada Fiber Optic Laser. Its a perk of working where I do, in a sheet metal shop Smile
