Luggage Rack Top Box/Bag
#1

I just installed the Honda luggage rack. Any suggestions on a good top box
or bag that will fit it? As you know it's long and narrow so the extra bag or two I have for my Harley won't fit... too wide. Guvi shows a fiberglass box, but a molded bag like Kawasaki offers for the KLR would be terrific...

I assume you already know about the Honda top box ( http://japan.webike.net/products/21118132.html ). Be ready to cut into the retirement savings though...

Other than that, you'll probably need an adapter plate to mount a different brand.

I have a Hepco Becker box from a previous bike, and I almost bought the compatible CB11 rack a few days ago. Sadly, I just can't let myself spend $260 bucks on that damned thing yet. It's ridiculous how expensive some aluminum tubing can be.

I installed the Shad SH-29. The base plate fits the Honda rack perfectly, and IMO, the size and shape go well with the bike. I got the red colored model. The colors are close enough to suit me; obviously not a perfect match, but close.

With shipping the Shad case is around $100. Compared to almost $700 for the Honda top case, I'm quite happy with it. It's on par with a Givi hard bag materials-wise. Most important, it's water-tight and the locks and latches are secure.

I bought from these guys and got good service:

Gentlemen,

After looking at the rear racks available for the CB11, I chose the Honda rack as it is very stout, excellent build quality and fit, has the highest load capacity, easy to install and remove (I'll only put it on when I'm going to use it), and is the lowest with it's top surface just barely above the top of the taillight. Some of the racks I've seen have their top surface way above the taillight creating a higher center of gravity. I'm not a fan of hard top boxes from an appearance standpoint so the quality weather proof Cortech 24L tail bag mounted to my Honda rack does the trick for me.

My two gripes about the Honda rack are that it's made of steel instead of aluminum so its heavy, and it only comes in chrome. I'm having mine powder-coated flat black to make it less noticeable. All the best.

Chip

Interesting...at first I was thinking chrome looked the best, but now I'm having second thoughts. The black steel HB-compatible rack from Japan is quite a bit cheaper than the chromed aluminum rack that motomachines.com sells (even after shipping). Since it's just the 4 mounting bolts, I too will probably remove it when it's not in use....at least that's the plan. Hmmm...decisions, decisions, decisions.

I think I'll try the Shad... Thanks all.

That one reminds me of the bag Kawasaki has for the KLR... I like it. Have you tried it on the CB1100?
