Shoulda Woulda Coulda. My BIL has pretty much everything I need, and the skills to use them, too. I go over to his house, mention my problem, he says let's put it on the lift. I go into the house to get a couple of brews, and when I come out, he already has the problem disassembled and looking for solutions. We go and I buy some parts, come back and he puts them in. He's also a really good machinist and a crackerjack welder, and he always has beer and bourbon on hand. I take him and my sister out to dinner, then to breakfast the next morning, and I'm on my way home, problem solved.

Wow, Charlie, you have an awesome Brother in Law! Mine is inept regarding anything mechanical. The last time I saw him, he said "My car needs a new air conditioner." I turned it on, and the fan was making a whining noise. I reached into his fan motor and pulled out a leaf that had gotten sucked into it. "There you go, sport!"

My wife got me a motorcycle lift from Harbor Freight. I have no idea how she got it home but it was there when I came home from work.

My first impression was... Where will I put it and it takes a lot of space in the garage... Well let me tell you it was the best gift ever. makes working on bikes a breeze! I love it. I will never live with out one again.

As for should have got it... I was looking at a Bultaco Stinger 125 when I met my wife. Instead of getting the bike I bought her an emerald ring for Christmas. It was the better choice. But I love the look of those bikes and they are very hard to find these days.

I shoulda bought a 2000 Ford Excursion with the 7.3 diesel and forged rods, back in 2000. 'Cuz now they're really hard to find in decent condition--over 200K miles, trashed interior, and they're still close to 20 grand. I want to take my whole family AND pull a big trailer. There's just nothing out there which compares.

When I start thinking about stuff that I "should have bought" years ago, I tend to get depressed, lol.

I suppose a garage heater would be nice to have, and would have been nice to have years ago. So that would be tops on my list.
I still don't own a set of ratcheting wrenches so add those to the list too (might as well add a stubby length set to the list as well).

Only thing that I can think to add to the "shoulda" list... When I worked at Petersen Publishing way back when, some project cars and bikes were piling up in the parking garage below the building. After several nags from the L.A. Fire Department, building management ordered us to clear out most of it. One of the motorcycle magazines had Pete Santini do a custom paint job on a CB900. Nobody wanted to keep it. It was about ten different colors and quite garish. I could have probably just taken it, but at the time, I thought it was way too big of a bike for me. At that same time, my boss was going through a nasty divorce, and was selling some of his things so "she" wouldn't get them. One of them was a CBX. I thought "If the CB900 is too big, I certainly don't want a CBX!"

Oh well...

Ha-ha! You can pick your friends, but you can't pick your family. My sister's husband is a great guy, for sure. My wife's brothers, tho, how much time do you have? I am still really pissed off at one of them (there's four of them,but the best one passed away several years ago, cancer) the other three are, shall we say, marching to a different drummer, and that's being kind.
