As I read this thread, I panicked and wondered where the proof of my first oil / filter change was that I did myself .. until I realized its been over 5 yrs and the new bike warranty was only 1 or 3 years ..

In the past for me, and within warranty period, other bike manufacturers indicated proof of purchase of items required to satisfy routine maintenance and that applicable factory items were replaced (e.g. oil filter). They said it was not a requirement to have a licensed garage perform the work. I believe Honda has a similar flexible acceptance.

For the US it's not the manufacturer but the Federal Govt that allows one to do their own first service as long as they retain proof of materials purchased.

Just completed the first service at 1,000km. All very straight forward thanks to Mr Ferret's instructions. Couldn't get hold of GN4 oil, so used Motul 7100 4T 10W30 and the Honda filter. Cleaned the chain with kerosene and lubricated it with Wurth Dry Lube. Had to tighten the chain a little.
