Hi. I’m new here and I wanted to ask you guys a question. I’ve got an CB1100RS and I noticed a strange whizzing high pitched noise coming from the left hand side of the engine. I can hear it clearer if I spread the left leg. Did you guys notice it? Could it be the starter? Thanks

LK644, now days you should keep legs tight together, 0.02
Now seriously, can you submit a short video/sound clip?, so these members with good hearing can help you.

Thanks for the replies. It sounds like a dry gear or bearing. I’ll record a video. The leg seems to block the noise, You can only hear it when you move your leg out of the way.

Does it makes the noise when only the engine runs or only when in gear ? Easy to check when on centerstand .

Only in gear. I was thinking about trying that. It intensifies as you accelerate.

Hi, this may sound weird, but riding my 2013 CB home today after getting it inspected, I heard, for the first time, a high pitch, whizzing noise that seemed to be coming from the front of the engine. I have never heard it before, or on my 2017 EX. Going to ride it on Friday to see if I can pin-point where it is coming from.

Although the adjustment is on the right LK, maybe the gear lash adjuster needs attention.
Or maybe the cam chain tensioner? A member had problems with that, but I can't remember the sound it made.
I just noticed this should really be in the Mechanical section of the forum. A lot of members don't really look here and it would get a better response there.

I’ll put it on the centre stant today to try and replicate it. It’s like a metallic ball in a can you shake and as you rev it the frequency of the noise intensifies until it becomes a whizzing noise. I noticed at low rpm eg. 1200 you can notice the pause in between the rattles. Very weird. Maybe it’s meant to be there, my bike is under a year old.
