How is your black engine paint job holding up?

(there's that weird tree-bird creature in the gas tank again, DBM)

My engine paint is lightly faded but in no way peeling. Desert heat can do that.

My slight issue is some of the hoses and rubber sheeths. I can get another season out of them but I'm sure some will need replacing.

Here in SoCal mine is holding up pretty well. I shoot it with a coat of WD every so often, wipe any excess and let dry in the garage. So far so good.

My all-black '14 CB1100 lump never peeled nor did it require nursing.

During riding season it sat all day in a sunlight/rain and profusely humid parking lot as well as baking in stupid traffic congestion and freeway wasteland.

At about 41k on the clock my black CB is experiencing the following: pitting on the forward facing sides of the lower engine covers, a couple of small paint chips on the forward facing sides of the gas tank from pebble strikes, pitting and minor fading on the black forks, and the finish on the frame downtubes is showing its age a bit too. A good polish will fix maybe 50% of this. I'm due for a thorough cleaning before the rally, but the other half of that is permanent signs of age. You just cant avoid it with a high mileage bike. I suppose if it gets bad enough I could replace some engine covers, and I wanted to upgrade the forks one day anyway.

I feel like I have addressed the black engine issue before, mainly the goofy idea to do the 2017 EX in the USA half black & half silver. This is where the DLX outshines, literally, the EX model here in the states. On some bikes the black engine looks okay, but I am not a fan of it. On my Z900RS it works, but not on the CB1100. I hope if Honda builds their inline 6, which I shall be in line to get one, they stay away from black engines.

Generally I am not a fan of black engines either, but Honda did a decent application on the CB1100.
