Suggested brake pads?

Gonna grab those TRW MST 278 rotors for the front finally. While I'm at it ill do the front pads too.

Any suggestions? I'm not sure what kind of material the factory ones are.

1. I especially hate noisy/squeaky brakes

2. Less brake dust the better (but not as the cost of having good brakes)



I'm not that educated on all the different pros/cons to the different materials they use to make brake pads.

My pads still have plenty of life on them but I was always told to do pads with rotors

on my cb600 and cbrs ive had i ran sintered ebc but they are hard on rotors oem pards on these are great i think oem honda pads are some of the best i know a few drag races that only run oem honda pads

Do you know what material the OEM pads are?

i believe oem are hh sintered but dont take my word for it

I'm pretty sure the Honda supplied OEM pads are HH and that would be very common. It would also be quite common to have a GG rated pad on the rear to compliment that front HH. There is a fella on YouTube replacing the pads on a 2013 and it looks like he is using OEM Nissin pads and they are marked HH on the back, last two digits of the part number.

I recently put Organic pads on the front of my Daytona 1200, scary! I just purchased some HH and will be putting them on this week.

Out of interest does anyone know why Honda dropped the "combined ABS" in favour of regular ABS?

Why would you replace perfectly good brake pads? A light sanding to clean and roughen up the surfaces should be all you need. I assume you're replacing the rotors because they're warped?

[/quote]I'm pretty sure 1 of of them has been warped. I've flip flopped them and all and still get a weird pulse sometimes when braking.

I was just under the assumption the pads are worn to the rotor surface so you replace them when you get new rotors

On a CB 1100 brake pads ( for me) last about 20,000 miles. The rotors should be good for well over 100,000.

I'm only around 16k and brake pads looks more than fine.

I can see some chips on the corner of 1 of my rotors and I can only imagine something hit it or possibly it came into contact when I had a low speed drop in a turn when I caught sand (I live on an island).

This was when I first got the bike and I've just been dealing with the pulsing for the last few seasons but its time to replace them.

I flipped the rotors and cleaned the brake pads/calipers last season and the pulse but went from low speed braking to high speed braking.


So im gonna get new rotors.


I also bled the brakes with some new fluid in an effort to make sure I checked every box.

I was responding to the quote above. It is not necessary to replace rotors and pads as a set. If it were, they would sell them as a set.

Obviously if there is crash damage the rotors could need replacement before 100K. The pads can be lightly sanded and reused if plenty of material left. However as long as you're in there might as well start off with all new stuff. Save your old pads for later .
