Neutral safety problem-
#1
Hey there. So I removed my headers to polish them up. Unplugged some wires for more access. Reinstalled and tidied up wires. Bike runs fine- but the green N light does not go on when the bike is shifted into neutral. Also, when the bike is in neutral and you put down the kickstand, the engine shuts off.

So- there's some neutral indicating circuit that is open. Anyone know where these wires/switches are in the harness? The wiring is tucked away very cleverly so any help would be greatly appreciated.

So- it seems that it is the part of the circuit that indicates that the bike is in neutral. I that circuit is energized, it must in turn disable the kickstand safety switch (allowing the machine to remain running while the kickstand is put down). So, I'm deducing that it is somewhere that sends a signal from the trans up to the dash to light the green neutral lamp. Any thoughts?

Give me a little time to look at the book. I’ve been at the car dealer all afternoon waiting for them to service my truck. Just got home.

But, I would first check the connections you messed with and ensure there are no bent or pushed pins and that the connectors are seated all the way.

Quickly before I get in the book, the sidestand switch is bolted on behind the bolt that holds the sidestand on. That switch is not going to be the problem as the engine cuts off when you put the stand up. However, the connector for it is under the left side panel, middle connector (2P Black).

The neutral switch is on the right side of the bike aft of the cover with the oil window and HONDA on it. Look in the space behind the cover and you will see it. It’s kinda small. The bigger switch just below the front of the cover down low is the EOP (engine oil pressure)switch.

Lord Popgun is on the right trail. The neutral light/oil pressure and sidestand switch use identical 2-pin black connectors under the left sidecover area. If they are switched, you will get the symptoms described.

Thanks Duck! I couldn’t find the neutral switch connector in the book yet. And side cover connectors labeled as: Top-Fuel pump, middle- Sidestand switch, lower- DLC (this for non-abs ‘13 model. I could follow the cable out to verify, but nope, not doing it Big Grin

I think though, it is actually in the boot in the behind the right side cover area. Not sure without following the wire, but it is a 2P black with the harness coming from the correct area.

Is it possible a similar symptom could be had if the said circuit is not made, that is, one conductor is open (floating)?

It could. I’d have to verify on the ignition diagram, but—it was working fine, he messed with stuff—and now it doesn’t work. He just needs to verify his work and proper plug connections.

After saying that. He is missing his neutral ground. So it is ‘open’. He should find it pretty quickly.

If the bike is in neutral with the engine running and the clutch pulled in does it still shut down when the sidestand is extended?

If it does'nt i'm with L.P. and G.O., the neutral switch itself is not connected to the green wire like it's supposed to.
