Sorry in advance

I guess this has been asked lots of times but the search shows nothing to help.
What engine oil is best to use ? I'm sure I've read somewhere that some can cause an engine tick so I want to avoid those.
My handbook recommends SAE 10w-30 jaso T903 standard MA api SG or higher.
I was planning on using my usual Castrol 10w-40 semi but the above spec has made me doubt my choice. Its the first service so want to get it right.

An oil thread? What be this?
I used Honda GN4 10W40 and no problems.
I switched to Motul 5100 10W40 and it felt better, especially clutch action.
Ultimately I stayed with Shell Rotella T6 5W40. It was at least as good as Motul, but is a full synthetic and useful for winter cold climate riding as well as profuse, steamy hot summer conditions.

Not to be snarky, but use what you like. If you don’t want to second-guess yourself, simply follow the manufacturer’s recommendation. There’s nothing wrong with it and your bike will be fine.

That's the thread I was looking for thanks.
I'll go with the recommended 10-30 this time.
Don't want this to go on forever so it can be closed if the powers that be wish to do so.

My last four Honda motorcycles in the past six years all recommended 10W30 in their engines.
Heck, even my Honda EU2000i recommends 10W30. Now that I think about it, my Honda lawnmower suggests 10W30. There is a theme going on here.
Use the grade that is suitable for your climate, or just stick to the Honda product literature.

I struggle with oil choice in all of my bikes. With the CB1100, I just went with 10/30 Honda GN4 knowing it would be a safe bet. Perhaps I would switch to 10/40 in the hot summer months.

No one that I can recall has mentioned any specific oil harming their engine. It seems that some feel specific oils can improve "aspects" of their engine performance. I just use Honda GN4 10W30 because Mr Ferret said so.
