Next give both keys a very careful look, side-by-side, in good light with a magnifier. If you don't see any difference - and my guess is you won't - then the key may still the problem. Talk to your Honda dealer in order to find out whether there is more to the CB keys than just the visible shape. Some automotive keys have magnetic inserts (and other stuff) as additional theft protection. I don't see any such thing on my key, but it's not impossible. In this case one key could work, and the won't.

In the US we do not get the H.I.S.S so no chips in our keys. Not sure about Canada.

You are certainly right, but H.I.S.S. or not, could it be that the key has a magnetic component (sensed by the lock, as a protection against unauthorized copying). If the field is too weak sourdough would see exactly the intermittent problems he described. As I said, a shot in the dark, but I had a car key like this many years ago.

I've known of car ignition switches what wore out from dangling a heavy set of keys. pekingduck, apologies for helping to derail attempts to garner serious answers to your question. The key ring for my bike key also holds the key to my top box and a fob. I know I shouldn’t have the other things on there, but I used to find I left the top box key in the box if I didn’t have to remove it to start the bike.

J3, in the US, the key is a key. Any blank will do. No magnets, chips, or com devices checking with the NSA
Just a key

I wonder what policy in North American, or lack thereof (which exists in parts of Europe), determined that the "HISS" feature was not a requirement?
