CBR 600 Rims on the CB1100?
#1
I want to create my own CB1100RS. Can I put CBR600 rims and tires on? Would they bolt right up?

To simplify the answer - no. There is quite a bit of work to be done there. Use the search to check the threads talking about 17" wheel conversions

I've been down this road of thought myself because I consider the RS to be the very best version of our bike that we will never get in the US.

However, the conclusion that I came to is daunting. You would need:

RS forks
RS wheels
RS brakes
RS swingarm (yea, it's different)
RS ABS system
RS wire harness (yea, the whole thing)
RS Speedo or Speedo healer

And those are just the major components. The nickel and dime list is so long it isn't even worth typing. The primary advantage of the CB1100RS over every other model is justt Handling. It handles better, which is saying something on a bike that handles as well as ours. So, if you want a better handling CB1100 that isn't an RS, a smarter move would be:

Upgrade Front suspension with progressive shocks and PD valves OR just buy some '17 model front forks.

Upgrade the rear shocks with aftermarket. Icon makes an awesome set that is as good as the RS set and stays true to the intended aesthetics.

Have a set of custom spoked 17" wheels made. At least one forum member did this with fantastic results (Chync? you around?). If you have a spoked wheel hub machined as a copy of the stock CB1100 wheel hub you can lace up 17" hoops and it will bolt right on.

This is a much better approach IMO

I see. It’s more work than it’s worth for me personally. I really wish we had the RS here but I like the bike as it is too. I will probably use Angel GT tires at 160 like other people here do.

FWIW, Give the Avon Spirit ST tires a hard look. I've been using those for long while now. I'm deeply impressed, and they're getting better mileage than the Pirelli by a wide margin.

I have always thought that one of the things that appeal the most to me with the CB is how extremely well-balanced it is. As soon as you begin moving it sheds its weight completely, and just feels so well balanced. I think this is partially down to the 18 inch wheels providing a stronger gyroscopic effect. Having tried the RS too, I found that it certainly handles better at speed, but it does not quite feel as neutrally balanced at slow speeds.

For me, the 18 inch wheels just suit the CB better making it the classic incredible bike it is.

I guess it makes sense, though I haven't had a chance to try the RS. You raise a point of balance and I wanted to reinforce that, as I think the CB1100 is a really well balanced motorcycle, it especially shows at low speeds, or sitting at signal lights waiting to move, or doing footless stop signs, and footless take-offs. I especially like to sit on the bike both feet up while on center stand, kick into first, rock it off the stand and just go. It kinda feels like a tiny little show-off move, but I don't care, it's simple and effective
