CB1100 chain stretched out already @ 3k?

Hey guys, I recently lubed my chain and waxed it today saw it had over 65mm of slack!!! I had the tires changed out by a Harley dealership (only thing closest to me) I guess I should have double checked the slack…..

Anyways I tighten the chain to a proper 30mm of slack and this is what the chain indicator is saying. Do you think I should replace the chain now or soon? I’m guessing from being too loose for so long could stretch the chain out with only 3k?

I'd say set it to proper specs, and just check it regularly to see if it keeps the correct adjustment.
The Harley dealer may not have been too careful where they set your slack, but riding with a chain that's a bit too loose will probably do less damage to the chain itself than if it were stretched too tight.

Also, check the torque on your axle nut. If it's not to the correct spec, it could move forward a bit and loosen up your chain adjustment. I incorrectly used the wrong year spec on mine the first time I adjusted it and it moved a bit, loosening up the chain.

If yours goes out again soon after it is adjusted properly and the axle is torqued properly, then you might have a problem. But if the bike only has 3k miles total, you're probably pretty safe.

Torque specs for the rear axle nut:
2013 = 83 lbf-ft
after 2013 = 69 lbf-ft

Grab the chain at the rear of the sprocket and try to pull it off the sprocket. If the chain is worn, you'll reveal about half a tooth of the sprocket. A new chain will wrap around the sprocket snugly and won't pull away. At only 3000 miles I doubt it’s worn yet.

That's the best guide. If I recall correctly, the chain adjustment from new is pretty close to what you're seeing, and not going to change very much soon.

65 mm slack is even too much for an Adventure Bike.

Sounds like a simple re-adjustment according to spec. Can't recall if Honda recommends while on centerstand or side. Probably centerstand given that it comes with one.

It does look a bit close to the end-stop adjustment wise, are you able to count the number of shackles ( side-plates ) ?

Doesnt seem feasible to me that that clean chain is shot at 3k. I got 37 000 out of my first chain, and am about to turn over 30,000 on my second chain, and Im not the easiest on chains

Once you have the chain slack set, the wheel nuts torqued and the wheels aligned, I recommend you snug up the chain screws on both sides of the swingarm to keep the axel from slipping forward.

has the front sprocket been changed to a smaller one?

..or the rear sprocket? Looks not OEM to me and it seems to be a 39 teeth sprocket?
But I'm not sure. What model is that CB1100?
