Found this thread today after having the solid MIL showing after a dead battery jump start. Not sure if what I did was the fix, but posting in case somebody else finds this thread for the same reason and wants to give it a try.
Followed the thread advice and service manual instructions of making sure the run switch was on, then turning on the bike without starting to see if the MIL flashed any codes. It didn't. Just glowed steady. Re-read things and realized I didn't have the kickstand down. While the ignition was turned on (and the MIL was lit), I lowered the kickstand. MIL turned off. Went for a 15 mile ride and it never came back on.
Did lowering the kickstand reset it? Seems random. But when it comes to bike electronics, if the manual or anyone here told me to pat my head and rub my belly while counting backwards from 10 while I turned on the ignition--I'd probably try it.

Just out of interest, given both hands were occupied, how would one turn in the ignition?

I have not gone thru all the replies, but have you tried cycling the ignition switch 3 times in a row?
