Knocks on acceleration/deceleration
#1
Hello guys,

I noticed strange knocks on my '13 CB1100 with 64k miles.
They happen when I accelerate from full stop, when I almost release the clutch.
Similar knock happens when I brake intensely with rear brake.
It seems it comes from the hub of the rear wheel, but it also possible that it's from below: gearbox/clutch area, I'm not quite sure.

Any suggestions what it could be and how critical?

I've planned to commute by my bike tomorrow (50mi one way) but now I'm having second thoughts about it.
Will appreciate any help.

I could be wrong and others will come in but I'd be looking at your chain. Could just need adjusted and you're experiencing some slap.

How many miles do you have on your chain and sprockets? A worn chain with a tight spot could be causing this. Put your bike on the center stand and spin the rear wheel by hand and see if you can hear any noise. If not, try starting the bike while on the center stand and carefully running it through first and second gear while listening for the noise. Does the noise just happen when the bike is in gear? Does it happen when you rev the engine in neutral? Does it ever happen when you're coasting? Is there any loosness in the rear wheel bearings? I'm sure you've checked the engine oil.

yes, I'm familiar with the chain slack. This chain is well worn and has its tight spots, but I did my best tightening it recently...

My chain and sprockets have 21k miles, but sometimes it was driven in dusty/sandy conditions, so it is about the end of its life. It's tightened by the manual recently, and it's on the end edge of the "green" interval marked next to the chain tightening bolt.
...
Upd:
I went to the bike, removed chain covers, rotated the wheel forth and back until I heard the same (but lighter) knock. It appeared when loose spot was switching to a tight one on the sprockets.

It's time to order a new chain I suppose.
So far I used DID chains. Does anyone recommend anything better?

You'll probably get a lot of opinions concerning what type of chain to use, but I use D.I.D. 530VX3.

Can't go wring with a D.I.D. I've used them for years on dirtbikes and quads with great results. Same goes for JT's steel sprockets.
