fork gaiters ??

anyone make fork gaiters in black for the 2014 std model? or know of a set of black fork gaiters that will work? I assume prop up the front end, pull the calipers, front wheel, then the forks, slip the gaiters on and put it all back together, right? I think it might look a bit more period with fork gaiters on. And it keeps bugs off the lower forks as well. I also assume this has been done before?

Yep, lots of us have installed gaiters. I used the ones off a Kawasaki W650

had to loosen front axle pinch bolts, remove front axle nut, remove front axle, remove front wheel, slide off both brake calipers, remove both hydraulic hose stays, remove abs contact, remove front fender, then remove each fork leg one at a time and install gaiter. Then reinstall 1 fork leg, and then do other fork leg, then reassemble. Wasn't difficult, hardest part was removing and reinstalling the abs sensor since I have never messed with one before, and din't pay enough attention to order of removing the sensor wire. Had to re-remove front wheel during reassembly because sensor wire had to be installed before wheel could be installed and I didn't realize that.

Thanks Ferret. I asked the question before I figured out the search system. Those gaiters look quite period I must agree. Does look pretty straight forward. thanks for posting it all. So, I'll have to get these on order.

I believe any gaitors for the Triumph Bonneville also work. I can't remember if I got mine for a Bonneville or a Kawasaki

I just pulled the calipers off and dropped the forks from the triple tree and slid the gaitors down the top of the forks. left the front end together otherwise if memory serves. Easy peasy

finally had some time to put the front fork gaiters on. from a Kawi W650. tops were pretty tight as is so I didn't zip tie them. If they start to slide down I'll go back and zip tie them.

Currently also working on installing hot grips, Scottoiler, and putting in iridium plugs. good grief the top of the engine, under the tank is crowded. might take a day just to get to the spark plugs.

I replace OEM spark plugs every 50,000 kms, with no sign of any electrode wear.
As to the spark plugs replacement:
* before starting any work, blow out any dirt/dust that has accumulated around the spark plug sockets
* then remove the seat, unscrew the M8 tank mounting bolt/12mm socket and insert a 2x4** between the tank and frame to give extra space to access the spark plugs, total 30-45 min job

** high side up, it may be necessary to remove the rubber vent hose

Thank you Peterbaron.
I have the tank actually off in preparation for routing the oxford heated grip wiring back to the spare plug behind the tool box. I just noticed how crowded it was from the top frame tubes to the top of the engine. it does look like there will be clearance, though not much, to get to the spark plugs without pulling off anything else. Man this bike is tightly packed under the exterior. I am also contemplating on how to route a power socket as well so that I can run the GPS too. might take some thinking.

My gps cable is connected to the 2-pin power connector/red cap located behind the head lamp.

I had the headlight bowl apart when I put in an LED headlight. Good grief is that bowl full of wiring. I thought it might be easier pulling a wire up from behind the tool box than taking that headlight bowl apart again, though that 2 prong plug and it's location is very logical. I might have to rethink that as a power point for the GPS like you did.

Iirc we replaced my spark plugs twice without removing anything but the plug caps. Im pretty sure there is a how to on it here somewhere.

Here it is pics are long gone, but description of procedure still applies
